US and G7 to prepare new sanctions package against russia for February 24

The US and the G7 countries intend to introduce a new large-scale package of sanctions against the Russian Federation on February 24.

This was stated by the US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland at an online briefing for journalists, the correspondent of RBC-Ukraine reports.

"I think closer to the 24th, you'll see a new big package of sanctions from the US and our G7 partners. The sanctions will be expanded and deepened in certain categories where we've already taken action, including cutting technology supplies to russia's defense industry, hi-tech equipment, etc.," said Nuland

According to her, personal sanctions will also be imposed on russians responsible for aggression against Ukraine. In addition, attention will be paid to the issue of bypassing russian sanctions.

"We see that russians are getting pretty smart: for instance, they import laptops and refrigerators through third countries, including sometimes our own countries (US allies), from which they get chips and other things for their military machine. We're going to stop these attempts both in our own space and in third countries. We are also expanding banking sanctions. We are going to extend our export controls to cover much of the illicit trade," Nuland said.
