US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced this at a press conference in Brussels following the results of the meeting in the Ramstein format, Ukrinform reports.
"A year ago, putin believed Ukraine would become an easy target. putin assumed that Kyiv would fall easily and the world would stand aside. But the kremlin was wrong," the head of the Pentagon emphasized.
He stressed that during this year, Ukrainian soldiers fought bravely for their country, the people of Ukraine showed courage to resist russian aggression, and nations of goodwill united to protect the world order.
"Together, we aspire to live in a world where disputes are resolved peacefully, sovereignty and borders are respected, and civilians are protected. Our Contact Group supports such values," said Austin.
He emphasized that the participating countries of the Rammstein format are united in supporting Ukraine's struggle for freedom.
"And we will stand together, united and resolute, as long as it takes," the head of the US Defense Department noted.
