Talks on fighter jets for Ukraine are at initial stage – Poland’s PM

The discussions on transferring military fighters to Ukraine are in the initial phase. Poland will make a decision if there is a unilateral agreement among other NATO countries, says Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

"The discussion on fighter jets is in the initial phase," said the head of the Polish government during a press conference in Brussels. "This should be a NATO decision. Poland will then decide what to do if there is an unequivocal agreement from NATO that fighter jets can be transferred to Ukraine."

Earlier, Rubryka reported that Poland pushed Western leaders at the Munich Security Conference not only to discuss the possibility of transferring fighter jets to Ukraine but make a decision on this issue.

After getting Germany's approval on Leopard tanks supply and the US and UK's decisions to provide Abrams and Challenger tanks, respectively, Ukraine has signaled that it now needs combat aircraft and long-range missiles in addition to Western main battle tanks to push russian invaders from Ukraine's territories.

During his visit to the UK, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, spoke about defense cooperation, and also gave a historic address to both houses of the British parliament, urging the UK to provide fighter jets.

The Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Kajsa Ollengren, confirmed that Ukraine had requested the transfer of F-16 fighters.

Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov recently said that the partners would provide Ukraine with combat planes. He noted that Ukraine's partners constantly hear about the need for aircraft, which is also part of air defense. According to him, Ukraine can get both F-16 and other aircraft.
