Poland offers to accept jailed Georgian ex-President Saakashvili for medical treatment

Poland addressed the Georgian government, offering to accept the former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, for medical treatment.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that after the meeting of the European Council, Onet reports.

"Poland initiated, and I spoke with many prime ministers on this topic, proposals to the Georgian government so that Mikheil Saakashvili, the former president of Georgia, could be treated in Poland," Morawiecki said.

"We are afraid that he may face the worst in Georgia. If Georgia wants to count on a positive response to its European aspirations, it must also take seriously this appeal, which is already being formulated by the Council's diplomatic service," he emphasized.

Earlier, the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, said that Saakashvili would not be released from prison even with her pardon.

On February 6, the city court of Tbilisi did not satisfy the request of the lawyers of the imprisoned ex-president of Georgia and citizen of Ukraine Saakashvili for early release due to his health.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed disappointment with the court's decision to reject the request of Saakashvili's defense for a postponement or exemption from punishment due to his serious health condition.
