Zelensky hints at "positive decisions" on F-16 jets for Ukraine

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, while on a visit to the European Union, said that there are already certain positive decisions regarding the transfer of Western fighter jets to Ukraine, but the russian federation does not need to know about it.

The Ukrainian Head of State said this at a press conference with the Chairman of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the Chairman of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Radio Svoboda reports.

"Regarding fighter jets, there are certain positive agreements that should not be public because we do not want to prepare the russian federation fully," Zelenskyy said.

The president also said that a decision on long-range weapons is imminent after his visit to Britain.

Transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine

At this time, Ukraine continues to ask partners to provide military aircraft, particularly F-16 and long-range missiles, to protect the country's airspace from russian missiles.

Recently, the discussion on this issue moved to more specific solutions during the visit of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to the UK.

He also spoke before the Parliament of Great Britain and expressed gratitude to the Parliament's members in advance for the planes. The Prime Minister of Great Britain Rishi Sunak instructed the Ministry of Defense to study which aircraft could be transferred to Ukraine.

Aslo it was announced that Great Britain wanted to train Ukrainian fighter pilots as soon as possible.

On February 9, the head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, called on politicians to provide Ukraine with aircraft and long-range missiles. Warsaw also stated that it is ready to hand the fighter jets needed by the Ukrainian military to Kyiv.

Also, even earlier, the head of the President's Office, Andrii Yermak, said that the issue of long-range weapons and fighter jets for Ukraine might already be resolved and promised to reveal details later.
