The law enforcement officers added that a search and rescue operation is currently underway at the scene of the strike.
Eleven investigative and operational teams, explosives experts, dog experts, paramedics, patrol police, and other units — more than 100 police officers — are working at the site of the rocket attack.
It is reported that police officers are evacuating people to a local school, where a shelter has been set up.
Later, the head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, said that at least two more people might be under the rubble of the building in Kramatorsk.
Governor Kyrylenko noted that a russian rocket destroyed a residential building in the very center of the city.
Even later, Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported that two people were rescued from the rubble of the destroyed building, the total number of injured persons was 21, and the number of dead was 3.
"In the city of Kramatorsk, the four floors of a four-story apartment building within one section were destroyed due to a rocket attack.
As of 01:00 on February 2, the bodies of 3 dead persons were unblocked by the State Emergency Service crews, and two persons were rescued. Twenty-one people were injured, 8 of them were hospitalized," the rescuers emphasized.
At 06:20, Kyrylenko reported that two people were killed due to the russian air attack on Kramatorsk, and the third person, who was declared dead, was resuscitated.
"Not three, but two people died in Kramatorsk. One person was resuscitated and sent to Dnipro for treatment. The number of victims is 21 people. Eight people were injured. Two of them are in serious condition and were transported to the Dnipropetrovsk region, where they underwent stabilizing operations," the governor reported.
