Book on Ukraine’s historical regions tops Amazon bestseller list

The English-language version of the book "Inside Ukraine. A Portrait of a Country and its people," which will be published by the British publishing house Batsford on February 16, topped Amazon's best sellers list.

It is noted that "Inside Ukraine. A Portrait of a Country and its people" is a book based on the first round of a large-scale expedition through Ukraine. It lasted from the summer of 2016 to the winter of 2018 and covered all historical regions. From Slobozhanshchyna to Podillia, from Volyn to Tavria.

The initiator of the project is Bohdan Logvynenko.

"This book came to me as a gift from a Ukrainian family I hosted in London. The mother and two girls traveled 30 hours to get to us by bus, train to the Polish border, and then by plane from Krakow.

They did not know that I was a book publisher, and my immediate interest surprised them. It was obvious that they needed to sleep, and the book needed to be published in the English-speaking world.

It was written before the [full-scale] war, and it's a wonderful portrait of what it means to be Ukrainian," British publisher Polly Powell summed up.

The Ukrainian version of the book was published by Stary Lev Publishing House in 2019.

It is reported that the publication will contain more than 350 photos, as well as QR codes that lead to longreads on the Ukraïner website.

"This is a convincing visual portrait of the real Ukraine, lovingly created by Ukrainians in the years before the current war.

The book reflects the true diversity of this vast country, the second largest in Europe, from picturesque forest villages to large urban housing projects, stunning mountain landscapes, and estuaries to industrial quarries and medieval fortresses.

It introduces the people of Ukraine and their stories, including traditional carolers, producers of wild honey, potters and railway workers, artists, shepherds, and broom makers," the Batsford website notes.
