US is sending 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine — Biden
US President Joe Biden officially announced the delivery of 31 American-made M1 Abrams tanks, as well as other equipment, to Ukraine.
He said this during a speech at the White House on Wednesday.
"Today I announce that the United States will transfer 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, which is equal to one Ukrainian battalion," the American leader said, adding that he made this decision on the recommendation of Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin.
Together with the tanks, the USA will "as soon as possible" ensure the training of the Ukrainian military and provide spare parts. Biden noted that this "will take time," which will also be used to integrate Western tanks into the Ukrainian army.
"We have also coordinated this announcement with our allies. US assistance will be supplemented by additional announcements (of military assistance) that will be ready to be integrated more quickly and easily in the coming weeks and months," the US president added.
We will remind you that earlier on Wednesday, the German government officially announced the decision to transfer Leopard-2 main battle tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to allow re-export to other countries that also want to do so.
