West should push russia to make concessions, not Ukraine
Allied countries should force russia, not Ukraine, to make concessions. The russian federation will have no option but to stop the killing of Ukrainians and start a meaningful dialogue if the entire international community takes a firm stand.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, said this in a column for Politico.
The head of the department reminded that some of the partners previously tried to put pressure on Ukraine to be "constructive" because it was more difficult for us to say "no."
"Despite all the flaws of the Minsk process, Ukraine kept its obligations. Together with France and Germany, we sought a transparent settlement and a just peace. The russian regime, in turn, did not fulfill any clause of the Minsk-1 and Minsk-2 agreements," Kuleba emphasized.
As the head of the ministry emphasized, now that moscow has failed to achieve the goals of its full-scale aggression, it is trying to outwit Ukraine and the international community.
"russia's latest statements hint at a desire to secure a new Minsk agreement, a new trap for the world. But russia actually wants a pause, not peace…
Today, putin made his last bet, deciding to continue the genocidal war of aggression against Ukraine at any cost. This means that there is nothing more to talk about with him. He made his choice and must be defeated," Kuleba emphasized.
The minister noted that if the entire international community takes a firm, consolidated position, then "russia will have no other option but to stop the killing of Ukrainians and start real substantive negotiations."
"In addition, I believe that the voice of the West is not enough to solve the global security crisis provoked by the russian war and guarantee long-term international peace. We have reached a turning point when the position of the states of the Global South can help achieve this result," Kuleba wrote.
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry concluded that the fate of a diplomatic solution to the war depends on the activation and use of the weight and influence of the countries of Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
"Every voice and every country is important because, in the UN charter, there are no "big" and "small" states, influential and non-influential, champions and outsiders. Those who sincerely seek peace should join the consolidated international efforts to implement the Ukrainian "peace formula," Kuleba concluded.
It will be recalled that the President's Office reported that after the start of a full-scale war, Ukraine received "recommendations" to make compromises with the occupiers.
