Situation with tanks transfer has not changed — German Defense Minister

Berlin has still not made a decision on the transfer of Leopard tanks to Ukraine, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said.

He said this after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, EP writes.

"At this time, there is no new information; the situation has not changed. We are preparing a decision, which will be very soon. As I said in Ramstein, I support our partners if they want to start training (Ukrainians, — ed.) on these tanks; we will not interfere. But as I said, we are preparing our decision," the head of the German agency emphasized.

The minister recalled his decision to entrust the inspection of tanks to the Bundeswehr. However, he noted that this was done not just to list them.

"Of course, we know how many of them we have; everything is a little more complicated. We have to check the industry's stocks," the minister added.

The NATO Secretary General, in turn, also said that a decision on the tanks would be made soon.

"We discussed tanks. Consultations between the allies will continue, and I think we will have a decision soon," he said.

We would like to remind that Poland should apply to Germany in the near future for permission to send Leopard tanks to Ukraine. However, if there is no such agreement, then the tanks will be handed over as part of the "small coalition."

Earlier on Monday, the German government announced that it had not yet received requests from European countries to transfer German-made Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
