Turkey is allegedly denying residence permits to russians — media
Turkey is allegedly denying residence permits to citizens of the russian federation who have moved to the country in recent weeks.
TRAVEL RBC-Ukraine writes about this with reference to the russian mass media, Rubryka reports.
Since December 26, russian citizens who left russia after the invasion of Ukraine and military mobilization have been denied short-term residence permits for tourism purposes in several cities, the report says.
"We were told that no matter what documents we provide, russians are now not issued residence permits," Kateryna, who moved from moscow to the Turkish city of Fethiye with her husband, told reporters.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry and the country's immigration authorities have not yet commented on the matter.
Last year, 153,000 russian citizens received temporary residence permits in Turkey. Thus, russians became the largest group among other nationalities that received this document.
According to Turkey's migration service, about 86% of residence permits received by russians were for up to a year. A short-term tourist residence permit allows visitors to stay in Turkey for up to a year and freely move in and out of the country. The residence permit entitles russians to open an account in local banks or to enroll their children in local schools.
russian citizens who do not have a residence permit are allowed to stay in Turkey only as tourists: the maximum stay is 60 consecutive days within six months.
It should be noted that after Europe introduced sanctions against russia due to the war in Ukraine, Turkey did not introduce similar restrictions. On the contrary: russians are given the "green light" to buy real estate and do business in the country.
