Estonia to provide Ukraine with record military aid
The government of Estonia has decided to provide military aid of 113 million euros to Ukraine. This is the most extensive aid package provided by Estonia to date.
The ERR portal reports this.
The publication said that Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur's proposal for military aid to Ukraine includes indirect fire and anti-tank weapons and ammunition for a total of 113 million euros.
Thus, Estonia's military aid to Ukraine will increase to 370 million euros. This is over one percent of Estonia's gross domestic product.
This time the military aid package consists of howitzers, ammunition, support vehicles for artillery units, and grenade launchers.
According to ERR, Estonia provides:
- dozens of 155-mm and 122-mm howitzers,
- thousands of shells and trucks for their use,
- more than a hundred Carl-Gustav anti-tank guns,
- more than a thousand units of ammunition for them.
Military aid to Ukraine does not reduce Estonia's defense capability. The combat capability of the transferred artillery will be fully restored shortly.
The planned transition to K9 mobile artillery is underway. In addition, the government announced that Estonia's defense capabilities would be strengthened by the presence of allies, including the recently added US HIMARS.
"Estonians know from their painful history what happens when evil wins and the big country swallows the small. If Ukraine falls, freedom in other parts of the world will also be threatened.
By helping Ukraine to protect its independence, we are protecting the right of all countries, including Estonia, to freedom and democracy," said the Estonian Prime Minister.
"Therefore, the free world should continue to provide armed assistance to Ukraine and do it even faster and on a much larger scale than before," Kallas said.
The Prime Minister also called on other countries to send weapons to Ukraine.
"All countries should review their reserves and support industry so that it can produce more and faster. russia's war against Ukraine has its price – a price that we pay in euros, and Ukrainians pay with their lives," she summarized.
Defense Minister Pevkur emphasized Ukraine's great need for heavy weapons.
"Ukraine needs heavy weapons to hold the initiative and confront russia, which is currently preparing to restore its military power. The most brutal battles are still ahead.
Our help and the help of our allies will directly impact the fighting capacity of Ukrainian soldiers, which is highly valued in Ukraine. Therefore, it is essential to set an example and motivate other allies to provide assistance," Pevkur said.
We will remind you that Latvia will also send Stinger anti-aircraft missile complexes, helicopters, machine guns with ammunition, and drones to Ukraine.
