Vast majority in US Congress favor further support of Ukraine — US Senator

Despite the presence in the US Congress of votes that call into question the need for further large-scale assistance to Ukraine, the overwhelming majority persists on Capitol Hill, which continues to consider such support as necessary.

The Senator of the Democratic Party, Chris Coons, stated this on Tuesday during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Ukrinform reports.

"In our political spectrum, there are people on the left and right who question the expenditures (to help Ukraine – ed.). But I think that the vast majority of members of Congress and our people support the continuation of a strong partnership with all our allies in Europe and around the world," the senator said.

He stressed that most people in the United States perceive the war in Ukraine as brutal aggression, imperial war, and putin's attempt to cross the borders of Europe.

"After tens of thousands of Ukrainians have died in the fighting, we cannot retreat," the senator emphasized. Coons also noted that putin had been miscalculated many times. He wanted to divide the West during the winter by manipulating the energy market to break the will of Ukrainians with strikes on critical infrastructure, but this did not happen. putin also sought to split NATO but made a huge strategic mistake by achieving the process of joining Sweden and Finland and doubling the russian border with the Alliance.

"I think we should now see the path to successful completion (of war – ed.) And liberation of Ukraine," the senator emphasized.
