Ukraine's defense ministry creates post-isolation support system for released PoWs

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is creating a system of post-isolation support for service members released from russian captivity.

Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Maliar announced this on Telegram.

Maliar highlighted that representatives of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, the Defense Intelligence, and the Mykolaiv Regional Council are jointly working in Mykolaiv on escorting and supporting the Ukrainian military after release from captivity.

"We wanted to mention that we are creating a system of post-isolation support following international standards. But in fact, we are already creating new standards ourselves because no one has such experience as our country has now," Maliar emphasized.

She stressed that the most valuable thing in the Ukrainian experience is that all processes are now being adjusted based on the feedback and suggestions of military personnel who have already passed the release and post-isolation stage — treatment, restoration of documents, work with a psychologist, etc.

"So, the most important thing in our work in Mykolaiv is meeting with our soldiers who have been released from captivity. They have the lead in this process. And I am endlessly grateful to them for their openness and sincerity," Maliar emphasized.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defense is working on opening centers to rehabilitate war prisoners in all of Ukraine's regions. One of these centers was opened in Mykolaiv on January 11.

Deputy Defense Minister Maliar noted: "We organize the post-isolation following international requirements. And now the Coordination Headquarters of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence is opening branches in all regions of Ukraine so that relatives of prisoners of war and service members who have returned from captivity would find it convenient to contact each other based on their place of residence."

In these centers, service members released from russian captivity will be able to receive the full range of necessary services.

"And it is not only about medical support. For example, in the Mykolaiv region, meetings are held with the families of service members still in captivity, and their children are congratulated on their birthdays. The work is ongoing," the deputy minister explained.
