Poland will change its defense concept based on conclusions of russia’s actions in Ukraine

Poland will change the concept of defense against aggression from the east after the conclusions drawn from the actions of the russian army in Ukraine.

Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak and his deputy Wojciech Skurkiewicz talked about this in an interview with Polish media outlets.

In a conversation with i.pl, Blaszczak spoke in detail about the creation of a new division of the Polish army, the task of which was to strengthen the defense east of the Vistula.

"For Poland, the main real threat is the russian federation with its imperial ambitions. So we need to have more forces in the east of the country, and a new division is being created for this," the minister said.

According to him, in the selection of the deployment site, the ability to deter the enemy and maneuver, as well as "demographic, communication and social aspects," were taken into account. They want to place the new division between the other two on the eastern borders.

"We will focus on the defense of every meter of our land. We are moving away from the doctrine that operated for years during the time of the current opposition. At that time, it was believed that the defense would begin along the Vistula, and we would withdraw from the eastern borders without a fight. This can lead to such tragedies as we saw in Ukraine in Bucha… We need to be very strong, especially in the east, because the main frontier of our security and independence lies there… Our goal will be to restrain the enemy effectively and, if necessary, take the fight to the east of our country, on our borders," Mariusz Blaszczak said.

He added that in the current realities, one should forget the approaches according to which Poland needs a small professional army and that for defense, it makes sense to withdraw to the Vistula.

Mariusz Blaszczak also touched on the issue of aid to Ukraine, noting that Poland is deliberately doing a lot for this because the worse the losses the russian federation suffers now in Ukraine, the safer Poland and other countries of the democratic world will be.

"We must remember this and be with Ukraine until the end," the minister emphasized.
