Media found out how many German Marder BMPs Ukraine can count on

The German Ministry of Defense is debating the possible number of Marder BMPs, which are planned to be provided to Ukraine. The numbers range from 20 to 40 armored personnel carriers.

It is noted that Germany coordinates the decision on the delivery of the Marder with Washington and Paris.

According to the publication, Germany may hand over armored vehicles that will come from the Bundeswehr warehouses or industrial stocks. Ukraine, for its part, has been asking for the provision of BMP for a long time. At the same time, it is unclear exactly how many armored vehicles there are and when they will be delivered.

The details of this became known on Wednesday when French President Emmanuel Macron announced the delivery of AMX-10 RC machines to Ukraine, and US President Joe Biden, for his part, said he was considering the possibility of providing Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.

The US and German governments could announce their part of the deal as early as this week. The matter is said to have been discussed for several weeks. Obviously, the West wants to strengthen Ukraine this way before russia can launch another full-scale offensive in the spring.

"We must provide Ukraine with what is possible. And the Leopard and Marder from industrial stocks. I welcome the announcement by France and the US that they want to supply Ukraine with, among other things, armored reconnaissance vehicles. Ukraine can be successful only from a position of strength, including in diplomatic negotiations," said SPD foreign policy expert Adis Akhmetovych.

According to the publication, the German Ministry of Defense is discussing transferring 20 to 40 Marder BMPs to Ukraine.

It is noted that the delivery of armored vehicles can happen quickly since the manufacturer has these old models in warehouses, and they have already been repaired.

There may also be models from Bundeswehr warehouses that may be replaced by new or refurbished BMPs from the industry in the coming months.

It was also emphasized that the Bundeswehr could provide the necessary training of Ukrainian crews by analogy with the artillery or anti-aircraft systems that have already been delivered. The army already has the corresponding plans, but a political solution is lacking. In any case, training can be activated at any time.
