Social book project “Railway Home” was created to support Ukrainian children: how does this solution work

Children will be able to receive the "Railway Home" edition as a gift from railway workers while traveling by train.

What is the problem?

Since the beginning of the war, Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian railway company — ed.) has evacuated more than 1 million children who were forced to leave their homes due to shelling by the russian army. Now that the children are coming home, they need support. Because although this is their home, it is still not completely safe here.

What is the solution?

Ukrzaliznytsia and The Old Lion Publishing House joined forces to create the "Railway Home" book project. A delightful story for children, written by Maryana Savka and illustrated by Marta Koshulinska, has already arrived from the printing house.

"This book is a sign of attention to the children of our country, who had to leave their own homes in search of safety, and to those who return, although it is too early to talk about safety," comments Maryana Savka, writer, editor-in-chief of The Old Lion Publishing House. – All of Ukraine is our home. "Railway Home" should entertain the child, become a friend for them, and make the road more fun and warm. This story is about a girl and her toy monkey, but in fact — about what keeps us and supports us in dark times."

How does it work?

Children will be able to receive paperback editions as a gift from railway workers while traveling by train. In this way, Ukrzaliznytsia will support small Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes. Hardcover editions can also be purchased independently in bookstores. 10 hryvnias from each copy will go to the fund of the #ZaliznaRodyna project, created to help the families of railway workers who died or were injured as a result of the war.

The moving story "Railway Home" tells about a girl named Eva returning home from her longest journey. And also — about love for the Motherland, friendship, family, and the unique role of Ukrainian railway workers in our country's recent history. The Ukrzaliznytsia train rushes through the golden fields. During a full-scale war, Eva, like many children, had to get on an evacuation train and go as far as possible from her native place, fleeing from tanks, rockets, and bombs.
