Ukraine wants to hold peace summit at UN, but without russia — Ukraine’s foreign minister

Ukraine wants to hold a peace summit at the UN at the end of February, and russia is not invited to it because it does not want peace and must first answer for war crimes.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, in an interview with the Associated Press.

"We believe that the UN will be the best place to hold this summit because it is not about doing a favor to any individual country. In fact, it is about bringing everyone together," Kuleba said.

According to him, the Ukrainian side is aiming for the summit to take place at the end of February. Ukraine also hopes that the summit will be held with the participation of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

"He has proven himself as an effective mediator and negotiator and, most importantly, as a principled and honest person. Therefore, we will welcome his active participation," Kuleba said.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the peace formula proposed by Ukraine, in particular, is aimed at "not allowing russia to manipulate the issue of peace."

"The russians regularly say that they are ready for negotiations, but this is not true. After all, everything they do on the battlefield shows the opposite. They are not looking for peace," the minister added.

Answering the question of whether Ukraine will invite russia to the summit, Kuleba said that for this, moscow must first answer before the international tribunal for committing war crimes.

"This is the only way to invite them to this step," Kuleba said.
