Ukraine expects to hold "peace formula" summit by end of February — Ukraine's foreign minister

By the end of February next year, the government of Ukraine aims to hold the previously announced summit on the "peace formula" proposed by Kyiv. UN Secretary-General António Guterres is being considered as a mediator.

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said this in an interview with AP on Monday, Rubryka writes.

In particular, he stated that Ukraine will do everything possible to win the war in 2023, adding that diplomacy always plays an important role: "Every war ends diplomatically. Every war ends as a result of actions on the battlefield and at the negotiating table."

Kuleba said that the Ukrainian government would like to hold a peace summit by the end of February.

"The United Nations could be the best place to hold this summit because it's not about doing a favor to a certain country. It's about involving everyone in the initiative," he explained.

When asked whether russia would be invited to the summit, the foreign minister said that it must first be held accountable for war crimes, for example, in an international court.

"This is the only way to invite them to this initiative," he added.

Kuleba explained that Ukraine would be glad for the active participation of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in the peace summit because "he has proven himself as an effective mediator and negotiator, and most importantly, as a principled and honest person."

At the same time, the head of the foreign policy department emphasized russia's unpreparedness for negotiations: "They regularly say that they are ready for negotiations, which is not true because everything they do on the battlefield proves the opposite."
