russia’s illegal presence in UN Security Council: Ukraine is preparing to provide evidence

Ukraine is preparing for official steps to prove russia's illegal presence in the Security Council of the United Nations.

The Head of the Foreign Ministry, Dmytro Kuleba, announced this, at an online briefing on Tuesday, EP writes.

"russia has been poisoning the UN for many years; this is no secret to anyone. Just as it poisons all the international organizations in which it is a member.

russia occupies the seat of a permanent member of the UN Security Council without proper legal grounds due to a blatantly fraudulent scheme that took place 31 years ago.

Ukraine is currently preparing for official steps that will prove russia's illegal presence in the UN Security Council and will launch a political process that should lead to its removal from this seat," Kuleba emphasized.

The head of the Ukrainian ministry also accused the UN of inaction in sending a mission to study the strikes of the russian federation with the help of Iranian drones on the civil infrastructure of Ukraine.

"Even when russia was just starting to use Iranian mopeds for terrorist raids on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure, Ukraine and its partners appealed to the UN to send a mission of experts to study russia's use of Iranian drones.

This is not just a mission. The fact is that supplying russia with Iranian-made drones violates the UN Security Council resolution of 2015, which establishes the nuclear agreement with Iran," Kuleba emphasized.

We will remind that on October 14, Ukraine officially appealed to the UN Secretariat regarding sending the mission, the minister added.

Kuleba noted that the UN Secretariat proposed two alternative dates in November, one of which has already been agreed upon. But later, the UN Secretariat informed about the impossibility of visiting Ukraine during these terms.

"The Secretary-General and the UN, in general, have not yet taken any steps to send a mission to Ukraine… I understand that it is not so cold in New York; there is always light and heating.

But let me remind you that what the UN Secretariat is doing now is an unacceptable prolongation and connivance of Iran and russia's impunity for their actions.

After all, it is a violation of the Security Council resolution and a threat to international peace and security. The UN should explain the reasons for the delay and inaction," Kuleba emphasized.

Kuleba also welcomed the adoption of a new package of sanctions by the European Union but said that the pressure on russia should be increased even more.
