Kyiv Christmas tree lit with bicycle and electric train wheels: solution

On December 19, on St. Nicholas Day in Ukraine, the New Year tree at the Kyiv railway station was lit up with the help of a bicycle and "Christmas wheels" from the electric train that evacuated locals from near war-torn Irpin in the spring.

What is the problem?

As a result of the russian shelling of energy infrastructure facilities, schedules of stabilization or emergency power outages are operating almost throughout Ukraine. Ukrainians spend at least four hours a day without electricity. But December is the beginning of the New Year and Christmas holidays. And despite everything, we want a little holiday and a bright Christmas tree. However, how to do it in conditions of power outages?

What is the solution?

Today, December 19, a Christmas tree was lit at the railway station in Kyiv. It shines with the bicycle and wheels from the electric train that evacuated locals from near war-torn Irpin in the spring. The station has a festive atmosphere, Christmas music plays, and sometimes even Saint Nicholas comes to the hall. Many people want to light the Christmas tree. Sometimes there are queues.

How does it work?

Near the Christmas tree, the Rubryka reporter meets the bicycle developer, Viktor Vorzhevitin. Viktor is an electrician by profession and works in one of the electrical installation organizations of Ukrzaliznytsia Railways. He advises how to pedal correctly to get the maximum result.

"The railway asked us to create an exercise machine that generates energy. If you want a holiday, sit down, cycle and light it for your beloved star, and make a holiday for the children. The basis of the design is an exercise bike, domestically produced, Hop-sports. A spatial frame is made, and a car generator and an ordinary inverter are connected. The exercise bike lights up half of the Christmas tree," Viktor says.

The second half of the tree is lit by Christmas wheels from the train that evacuated Ukrainians from Irpin in the spring.

According to Viktor, a person can produce about 200 watts, thanks to which you can charge five or six mobile phones at once. And a trained person can give out 300-350 watts and the peak, for five seconds, give out even half a kilowatt. An ordinary person, if they ride at a leisurely pace, will be able to charge a car battery in a few hours, which can then be used to turn on household appliances with the help of an inverter.
