German company manufactures Skynex air defense systems for Ukraine: details
The German defense concern Rheinmetall produces new Skynex anti-aircraft missile systems capable of shooting down drones and cruise missiles for Ukraine. In total, they plan to produce two units of air defense.
This is reported by the German media outlet Handelsblatt.
Rheinmetall confirmed the order on Friday but did not name the recipient country. However, according to government sources, it is Ukraine. Deliveries are expected at the beginning of 2024.
Skynex are designed for short-range air defense. The system can shoot down drones or cruise missiles with 35 mm ammunition.
The cost of two Skynex units is estimated at 182 million euros. At the same time, about 12 million euros will be spent on trucks, which will also be manufactured by the company. The costs are expected to be covered by the German government.
Experts believe that Skynex and Iris-T supplied by Germany to Ukraine are sufficiently accurate anti-aircraft weapons. At the same time, Skynex has a certain financial advantage compared to other systems since, for example, shooting down a plane costs about 4 thousand euros.
