EU announced ninth package of sanctions against russia

The European Commission has prepared the ninth package of sanctions against russia.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated this.

"russia continues to bring death and destruction to Ukraine. It is deliberately striking the civilian population and infrastructure to paralyze the country at the beginning of winter. We support Ukraine and make russia pay for its cruelty," she said.

According to her, the eight packages of sanctions already introduced have a painful effect on the russian federation.

"And today, we are increasing the pressure on russia with the ninth package of sanctions. First, we propose to add almost 200 more individuals and legal entities to our sanctions list," von der Leyen said.

It is noted that the list includes individuals and companies, including military personnel, representatives of the russian defense industry, members of the State Duma and Federation Council, ministers, governors and politicians.

"This list includes key figures in russia's brutal and deliberate missile attacks on the civilian population, in the kidnapping of Ukrainian children to russia, and in the theft of Ukrainian agricultural products," the President of the EC stressed.

The European Commission also proposes sanctions against three more russian banks, including a complete ban on transactions of the russian Regional Development Bank.

In addition, the new sanctions package proposes additional export restrictions on dual-use items, including certain chemical components, nerve agents, electronics and software that could be used for military purposes.

The European Commission has also prepared measures to complicate russia's access to drones.

"We propose to ban the direct export to russia of motors for drones, as well as exports to third countries, such as Iran, which can supply drones to russia," von der Leyen said.

The ninth package of sanctions includes blocking four more russian TV channels on the air and all platforms.

The European Commission also proposes additional restrictions against the energy and mining sectors, including a ban on investments in new mining facilities in the russian federation.
