Ukraine’s energy system gradually restored but situation in east remains hard

After a massive russian missile attack, the energy system of Ukraine is working on gradually restoring the electricity supply. Still, the situation remains challenging in the east, where on December 6, the invaders fired another attack on energy facilities.

The Ukrenergo electricity company reported this.

The company said that the units, disconnected due to damage to the power grids, were being loaded to the planned indicators at the nuclear plants.

Ukrenergo also emphasized that the situation in the country's east is difficult.

"On the evening of December 6, the occupiers repeatedly fired at several energy infrastructure facilities. At the same time, the temperature in the region reached -17°C. Emergency repair work continues around the clock," the company emphasized.

The DTEK maintenance company reported that on December 6, the russians fired twice at one energy company but did not specify in which region.

As a result of the shelling, the facility was disconnected from the power system. This led to restrictions on energy and heat supply in the region.

Eliminating the consequences of the missile attack in the Kyiv and Odesa regions is also ongoing, and a power supply is being established there according to backup schemes.

There is still a significant deficit in the energy system, which is why all regional energy companies have received limits on electricity consumption. Emergency shutdowns are already being introduced in regions with exceeded limits.

For example, emergency shutdowns are used in Kyiv.

Damage to the power system

On the afternoon of December 5, russia launched another massive missile attack on Ukraine. The aggressor launched more than seven dozen missiles. More than 60 of them were shot down by Ukrainian air defense.

Ukrenergo reported that due to another massive russian attack on Ukrainian energy, emergency power outages would occur throughout Ukraine.

Ukraine's Prime Minister announced that energy facilities in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Odesa regions had been hit. Because of this, Ukrenergo once again introduced emergency power outages in all areas of Ukraine, even though a return to planned schedules was predicted from December 5.

Ukrenergo predicts Ukraine may return to the planned electricity blackout schedule this week if there is no new shelling.

This was the 8th mass missile attack on Ukraine. Ukraine's energy infrastructure was damaged due to large-scale russian missile attacks on October 10, 11, 17, and 31, as well as on November 11, 15, and 23.
