Ukraine’s losses in ecology due to war exceeded $35 billion

Ukraine's losses in ecology in nine months of russia's full-scale war are estimated at 1,387 billion hryvnias.

This was announced by the acting head of the State environmental inspectorate of Ukraine, Ihor Zubovych, during the conference. "Damage caused by Russia to the ecology of Ukraine during the nine months of the war," Ukrinform reports.

"To date, more than 1.387 trillion hryvnias have been calculated using only three available methods. Atmospheric air was damaged for UAH 927.6 billion, land due to pollution and waste–UAH 443.7 billion, and the total amount of damage caused to water bodies is UAH 15.7 billion," the official clarified.

He noted that these are not final figures because the State environmental inspectorate constantly receives new information and corrects the data. Damages may increase significantly after the inspection finds out the full scale of the destruction. For example, in the Kharkiv region after the de-occupation, 26 environmental crimes were recorded, and an investigation is already underway to determine the damages.
