EU deliberating over ninth package of sanctions: individual listings and oil price cap
The Baltic states and Poland, which favor tougher and faster EU sanctions against the russian federation, insist that other capitals and the European Commission prepare the ninth package of EU sanctions and set an oil price cap
Politico writes about this with reference to diplomats.
The media outlet notes that, however, some diplomats of the European Union are dissatisfied with the attempt of these countries to link oil price restrictions with new sanctions.
They insist that the new package is still being prepared, and its connection to oil prices will only complicate the situation, the publication writes.
The ninth package of sanctions will focus on many separate lists, the two officials said. They will be directed against russian officials, propagandists, leaders, and other figures who support putin's regime.
"EU countries have offered long lists of names. And the Commission's experts are working through them to ensure they can be linked to the russian war.
That is necessary from a legal point of view for the sanctions to hold up if they are challenged in court, as is often the case," Politico writes, citing sources.
