Sweden to provide Ukraine with more modern weapons – defense minister

Sweden plans to provide Ukraine with new military aid, including more modern weapons, to illustrate its new defense policy.

The Minister of Defense of Sweden, Pål Jonson, stated this in an interview with Dagens Nyheter.

"The Swedish parliament has generally approved more and more arms deliveries to Ukraine. So far, it has been mainly anti-tank and robotic weapons.

On Thursday, the government received a secret document from the defense authorities about what heavy weapons Sweden can dispose of.

My first bilateral meeting was with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov. For example, Ukraine requires more advanced air defense systems," Jonson emphasized.

The Swedish defense minister suggested that Stockholm could provide Ukraine with the RBS 70 air defense system, which the Swedish Armed Forces no longer use.

Jonson added that as russia escalates its war, it is essential to provide Ukraine with advanced weapons systems and heavy weapons.

The minister also emphasized that the list provided by Ukraine also includes the Swedish Archer self-propelled gun from Bofors.

Jonson added that the ministry would be able to inform about the list of weapons that Sweden can transfer to Kyiv, training opportunities, and contributions to various funds after reviewing the documents provided by Ukraine's Armed Forces.

On October 25, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, discussed new ways to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities with Pål Jonson.

Also, President Volodymyr Zelensky was the first foreign leader to speak with the new Prime Minister of Sweden.

He informed the new Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, about the struggle of Ukrainians against the russian invaders and thanked him for his support.
