US President Joe Biden, commenting on the resignation of British Prime Minister Liz Truss, called her an excellent partner in helping Ukraine fight the russian invasion.

This is reported by The New York Times.

"She was a great partner on russia and Ukraine. And the British are going to solve their problem," Biden told reporters.

However, he refused to say whether her resignation was the right move.

Earlier in the day, Biden released a statement in which he expressed support for the British government amid the upheaval in its leadership and thanked Liz Truss.

"The United States and the United Kingdom are strong allies and enduring friends — and that fact will never change. I thank Prime Minister Liz Truss for her partnership on a range of issues, including holding russia accountable for its war against Ukraine. We will continue our close cooperation with the UK government as we work together to meet the global challenges our nations face," Biden emphasized.

In September, Biden and Truss met on the UN General Assembly's sidelines and discussed Ukraine and other issues via phone. But, as the newspaper writes, the US president and his aides did not hide that they disagreed with the tax policy of Truss, which shook the world markets.

In particular, Biden told reporters that he opposes the Truss tax plans, calling them "a mistake."

On October 20, the British government head, Liz Truss, resigned from the position of prime minister, which she assumed on September 6.

Truss will carry out her duties until the election of a new head of government, which is expected to take place next week.

The British media consider the former Chancellor of the Exchequer of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, to be the top favorite for the prime minister post.

The names of the leader of the House of Commons of the British Parliament, Penny Mordaunt, the current defense minister of the United Kingdom, Ben Wallace, and the former prime minister of the country Boris Johnson are also mentioned among the candidates who have the greatest chances to lead the British government.
