Ukraine urges to support rights of russia’s indigenous peoples amid military draft

The Ukrainian parliament, Verkhovna Rada, appealed to the international community to support the right of russia's indigenous peoples to self-determination.

As reported on the parliament website, resolution No. 8105 was supported by 322 deputies.

The appeal emphasizes that in implementing its aggressive imperialist policy, russia has been committing genocide of enslaved peoples for centuries, ignores the principle of equality and self-determination of peoples, and grossly violates the rights of indigenous peoples and citizens belonging to national minorities.

Even while waging a war of aggression against Ukraine, the russian authorities are committing genocide against the indigenous peoples of the russian federation, mainly using mobilization.

The totalitarianism and authoritarianism of the russian government pose a threat to the free, democratic development of the peoples of russia and the realization of their right to self-determination, and its imperial policy is incompatible with the Charter of the United Nations, generally recognized norms, and principles of international law.

In this regard, the Verkhovna Rada expresses support for the inalienable right of the peoples of the russian federation to self-determination per the UN Charter, generally recognized norms and principles of international law.

The parliament calls on the international community to take all necessary measures to stop the Kremlin regime's persecution of the leaders and members of the national liberation movements of russia's people; to stop the practice of deportation and internal displacement of russian citizens to distort the ethnic composition of russia's regions; to give the undisputed guarantee to citizens of the russian federation of the right to free expression of views, opinions, participation in peaceful assemblies, freedom of association, freedom of conscience and religion, as well as ensuring the free development of traditions and cultural identity of the peoples of russia.

At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada appeals to the United Nations, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly, and the national parliaments of the world countries with a call for consistent support of russia's peoples in realizing their right to self-determination. In addition, the parliament calls for strengthening comprehensive support for Ukraine for its victory in the russian-Ukrainian war with the further de-imperialization of the russian federation and the decolonization of the peoples annexed and kept within it.
