North Korea recognized the sham referendums and supported the attempted annexation of four regions of Ukraine

In a letter to the North Korean leader on the occasion of Korea's Liberation Day, putin wrote that closer ties are in the interests of both countries and will help strengthen security.

"From September 23 to 27, a "referendum" was held in Donetsk and Luhansk "people's republics," Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions in accordance with the UN Charter, which determined the principle of the equality of the people and their right to self-determination.

It was conducted legally, so it fully reflected residents' will, and most voters supported joining russia.

In response, Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with the DPRK, accusing it of trying to undermine our sovereignty and territorial integrity.

North Korea said Ukraine allegedly has no right to raise the issue of sovereignty after joining the US sanctions against the country.
