Turkey working to organize meeting between Zelensky and putin – Turkish FM

Turkey continues to make efforts to hold a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and russia, believing that they can make a decision about a "just peace."

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated this in Tokyo, where he arrived for the funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, TRT Haber reports.

"There must be a just peace, of course, especially for Ukraine because the lands occupied (by russia) belong to Ukraine. Of course, the players who want to continue the war outside the borders of these two countries also need to be convinced. As Turkey, we have not lost hope. We are increasing and continuing our efforts. Our goal is to meet both leaders and make a decision at the level of the leaders," Çavuşoğlu said.

He also expressed his belief that there are no winners in war, and as soon as both sides realize this, they can return to the negotiating table.

Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to the head of the President's Office, said there was currently no point in the negotiation process between Ukraine and russia, nor in the personal meeting of Volodymyr Zelensky with vladimir putin.

At the same time, the adviser stressed that the meeting of the presidents is possible if the complete withdrawal of russian troops precedes it, and the subject of the conversation will be a "discussion of post-war life, including the scope of reparations, compensation for damages and the extradition of criminals."
