Educational center created in Kyiv region for children of russia-destroyed schools and kindergartens

Children can come here daily, study independently or with friends, and access arranged distance learning.

What is the problem?

One of the villages in the Velyka Dymerka community in the Kyiv region was under occupation for three weeks. russian troops were based in the school, and ammunition was kept in the kindergarten. During the retreat, the school was burned, and the kindergarten was blown up. The wholly destroyed school and kindergarten were the only educational institutions in this village. All 500 children were left without access to education at all. The only surviving bus now takes children daily to the nearest school, 22 km away; senior school kids study only online.

What is the solution?

Residents and the project's initiators decided to create an educational space in the local cultural center, which miraculously survived. The community here started making repairs before the war. Hanna Novosad says it will be completed for entirely different purposes.

How does it work?

They have almost completed the arrangement of two large educational spaces in the club for high school and primary classes. Organizers are waiting for gadgets, purchasing didactics and educational materials.

"Children will be able to come here every day, study independently or with friends, and have access to arranged distance learning. And most importantly, we organize additional online and offline tutoring classes on school subjects, socio-emotional support, career guidance, etc.," says Hanna Novosad.

The next step is to complete several more primary school classes on the premises of the vast assembly hall. This is done so that smaller children are not driven so far every day.

In addition to this community, 12 more spaces will appear in Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. The project is supported by Save the Children and SURGe.
