Baltic countries call for more support for Ukraine amid sham referenda and mobilization reports

The ministers of foreign affairs of Latvia and Estonia reacted to the latest statements of the russian president, with which he announced partial mobilization and threatened to use nuclear weapons.

"We must not give in to his blackmail and support Ukraine as much as we can. Russia is as dangerous to Europe and the world's peace today as Nazi Germany was in the last century," Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevičs said.

The Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs also emphasized that, for security reasons, Latvia will not issue humanitarian visas to russians fleeing forced mobilization.

"This means more men and more war machines will be sent to Ukraine to wage a genocidal war against Ukraine. This is a desperate, panicky, and foolish move. Estonia and Europe will stand with Ukraine!" said Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu.

Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis, hasn't commented on putin's latest statements. Still, before that, he reacted to the Kremlin's intentions to annex the occupied territories of Ukraine after the pseudo-referendums.

"In 1940, an illegitimate Russian referendum forced my country into decades of terror, subjugation, and poverty. That's all I'm going to say about illegitimate Russian referendums," he wrote.

As reported earlier, British Defense Secretary Wallace said that Putin's latest statement was a recognition of the beginning of russia's defeat.

"Putin's breaking of his own promises not to mobilize parts of his population and the illegal annexation of parts of Ukraine are an admission that his invasion is failing," Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said. "No amount of threats and propaganda can hide the fact that Ukraine is winning this war, the international community is united, and Russia is becoming a global pariah."

In turn, the secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, Oleksiy Danilov, believes that the mobilization in russia is Putin's plan to destroy the russians.

Also, US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said that, despite the partial mobilization announced in russia and attempts to hold pseudo-referendums, the US would continue to support Ukraine.
