Ukrainian scientists created new hemp variety for body armor and parachutes
The Northeast Agriculture Institute of Ukraine's National Academy of Agrarian Sciences reports that hemp is also fabric for sewing natural military clothing.
What is the problem?
In the war conditions, the field of defense production became very important: from manufacturing weapons to equipping the soldier with ammunition. All this must be made correctly and from quality materials, which is sometimes problematic. Also, our military constantly needs appropriate clothing, and it is crucial for us that it be of high quality and comfortable. However, it is not always possible to sew from natural fabrics.
What is the solution?
During the traditional festival of industrial hemp, Hemp Fest, which was recently held in the Sumy region, experts presented a new variety of sowing hemp, Sofia. This variety is versatile in the use of both fibers and seeds. This means double opportunities to develop various branches of production, in particular, the defense sector, which is especially important in the current conditions.
How does it work?
Technical hemp is the basis for producing gunpowder with no analogs worldwide and high-quality raw materials for ropes and parachutes. Hemp fibers are in no way inferior to synthetic Kevlar, from which body armor is made. Plates made of hemp withstand shots from armor-piercing cartridges. At the same time, they are lighter than Kevlar.
In addition, experts say that hemp is a fabric for sewing natural, breathable, and practically "everlasting" military clothing and underwear, which has proven itself in extreme conditions when there are no hygiene products. In addition, hemp is an excellent eco-material for the construction and insulation of buildings.
