Lithuania to consider closing its borders to Belarusians with Schengen visas

The Lithuanian authorities are considering banning the entry of citizens of Belarus with Schengen visas into the country

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, Agnė Bilotaitė, stated this, Delfi reports.

"I see that the Belarusian regime is also participating in military operations and organizing hybrid attacks against Lithuania using illegal migrants.

I think that these are serious arguments for solving the issue regarding Belarusians," the minister emphasized.

On the night of September 18-19, Estonia closed its border to russians with Schengen visas. Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland did the same.

However, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Urmas Reinsalu, said, the ban does not apply to russian citizens who visit relatives or for other humanitarian reasons.

Lithuanian border guards reported that by 4:00 p.m. on September 19, 18 russians were denied crossing the border, Delfi reports.

After the EU countries' representatives' meeting on August 31, the European Union decided to suspend the agreement with russia on visa facilitation.

At the same time, a unanimous decision on a complete ban on tourist visas for russians demanded by several countries, such as Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, etc., could not be achieved.

The European Commission has officially proposed suspending the visa facilitation agreement with russia. The European Council must then vote on the decision.
