The head of state announced this at a joint meeting with von der Leyen and media representatives in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
"We discussed how we can expand Ukraine's opportunities to supply electricity to EU countries," Zelenskyy said.
He thanked the EU for giving Ukraine the opportunity to join the European power grids. This is a significant help because both parties are interested in it: Europe can get cheap electricity from Ukraine, which will help the society of the EU countries. At the same time, Ukraine will be able to earn money and replenish its budget.
In general, the presidents of Ukraine and the European Commission discussed a wide range of issues, including energy challenges.
"We see how the russian enemy is now attacking our thermal power plants and energy infrastructure. There will be many challenges this winter, and we will all have to work hard on this. We must work together because the countries of the European Union also face difficult challenges. We understand that we all have to help each other here," Zelensky said.
He also talked with von der Leyen about the situation at the front.
"We are very positive and motivated by the daily de-occupation of certain towns and villages. Therefore, this is a great victory for us," the President said and added: "Step by step, we must return life to Ukraine, and we are returning it."
Zelensky thanked the head of the European Commission for the support and assistance that the European Union and she personally provide to our country, for "support today both on the battlefield and financially, support at the level of positivity these days."
In addition, President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the possibility of providing macro-financial assistance to Ukraine from the EU next year.
"Today, we discussed the possibility of receiving the next tranche by the end of this year. This will also help us with social payments and assistance to Ukrainians. We discussed the possibility of preparing macro-financial assistance from the European Union for next year to Ukraine," Zelensky said.
He thanked the fact that the European Parliament approved the proposal of the European Commission, previously politically supported by the EU finance ministers, to allocate 5 billion euros to Ukraine as the second tranche of new macro-financial assistance for a total amount of 9 billion euros.
The head of state also noted that with von der Leyen, he raised an important issue for Ukraine — joining the EU internal market.
"While we are on the way to full membership in the European Union. I am sure that this will be one of the most important victories of our state, but the victory on the battlefield is the most important," said the President.
