Ukraine first-time elected to WHO Executive Board
Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko joined the Executive Board of the World Health Organization. His first deputy, Oleksandr Komarida, is now a member of the Standing Committee of the European Committee of WHO.
Ukrainian representatives were elected to the WHO Executive Board for the first time, the Embassy of Ukraine in Israel reports on Facebook.
This happened during the session of the European Committee of the World Health Organization in Tel Aviv on September 14.
"For the first time in history, Ukraine was elected to the Executive Council, the governing body of the WHO, which is a recognition of our country's contribution to the activities of this international organization.
In addition, the active participation of our state in the organization takes on particular importance in today's unprecedented challenges, primarily pandemics and the humanitarian consequences of russian aggression against Ukraine," the embassy says.
This year's WHO regional session brought health ministers and representatives from 53 countries.
They talked about bringing digital technologies to health care, promoting health through behavioral and cultural knowledge, addressing health worker shortages, and improving access to medicines. Also, at the regional session of the WHO, the influence of russia's war against Ukraine on the health care system was discussed.
