russians are erecting monument to Alexander Nevsky in Mariupol

In Mariupol, temporarily occupied by russian troops, the invaders are erecting a monument to Alexander Nevsky instead of a dismantled monument to the city's residents who perished during the first phase of russia's war against Ukraine.

It was reported by Petro Andryushchenko, adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, on Telegram.

"Mariupol. Right now, the occupiers are erecting a tasteless monument in the form of Alexander Nevsky instead of the dismantled unique monument dedicated to Mariupol residents who died during the first phase of the war. russia continues to destroy all Ukrainian cultural heritage that it can reach," Andryushchenko wrote and published the photos.

In Mariupol, at the beginning of August, the russian invaders dismantled a memorial to soldiers to install a monument to Alexander Nevsky on a horse. This memorial in Mariupol, dismantled by the enemy, then became an important component of the renewed Freedom Square.

It was made of granite in the shape of the Ukrainian coat of arms, over which water flows as a symbol of shed tears: the water washes the bronze oak leaves, each of which bears the name of the fallen Hero.

Alexander Nevsky (about 1228-1232, Pereslavl-Zalessky – November 14, 1263, Horodets) – Prince of Novgorod, Pskov, Grand Duke of Vladimir, Grand Duke of Kyiv, although it is not proven that he was ever in Kyiv.

He became famous thanks to the victories in the Battle of Neva and the Battle of Chudsky Lake. Canonized by the russian orthodox church in the face of "pious." The russian authorities have often used the image of Nevsky for propaganda purposes since the time of Peter I.
