Kyiv has the highest air pollution rate in the world

The Ukrainian capital recorded the highest level of air pollution among all cities in the world, QiAir reports.

According to the QiAir service, the air pollution index in Kyiv at noon on September 5 was 156, the second place was the capital of Colombia, Bogotá (154), and the third was Kuwait (134).

Since the morning of September 5, the air has been smoky again in Kyiv due to fires at a peat deposit. Currently, peat fires are being extinguished in the Kyiv region. The State Emergency Service reports this. 

Peat fires are being eliminated in the Kyiv region's Vyshhorod and Brovary districts. At the same time, the pollution level is characterized as "harmful" in Kyiv City's Podilskyi and Obolonskyi districts and as dangerous in the Mostytskyi massif.

To improve the situation, the Kyiv City State Administration recommends closing the windows at home, staying out of the street if possible, drinking plenty of water, and, if you have an air purifier, turning it on to the maximum.

The Kyiv authorities also warn that the smog in Kyiv due to fires in the region will continue on September 5-6.

"On September 5-6, the north-westerly wind direction is forecast. That is, the smog in Kyiv will last today and tomorrow," the report says.

At the same time, the radiation background in the city is standard. The capital authorities note that you can monitor the state of air in the city in the Kyiv Digital application.

In case of smoke exposure, it is recommended to: keep the windows closed, especially at night and in the morning, and avoid being outdoors if possible. If available, you should turn on air conditioning and air purification systems. In addition, it is advised to drink a lot of water and do the cleaning. You should consult a doctor if you have shortness of breath or a cough.
