Zelensky believes Ukraine can become Europe’s “green” energy hub

Ukraine is ready to help stop the price chaos and increase electricity supplies, and it can also become a "green" energy hub for Europe.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this during a speech at the Ambrozetti international economic Forum, Ukrinform reports.

"We are ready to contribute to stopping the price chaos in Europe. While russia is spending its efforts to increase the gas shortage on the market and prices, Ukraine is ready to increase the export of electricity to the EU countries. In particular, for this, it is important that the Zaporizhzhia station returns to a safe mode of operation and remains connected to the Ukrainian energy grid," the head of state emphasized.

He added that the russian presence at the Zaporizhzhia NPP significantly weakens our ability to help Europe in the energy sphere.

According to the President, thanks to Ukrainian electricity exports, it is possible to stabilize the energy consumption of neighbors in the EU, reducing russia's energy pressure on all of Europe, particularly Italy. Zelensky noted that even now, Ukraine can export the volume of electricity corresponding to at least 8% of the consumption of Italy.

The head of state also emphasized that Ukraine can become a "green" energy hub for Europe, replacing russia's dirty energy resources.

"Our country has a huge natural potential for developing capacities in 'green' energy and the production of 'green' hydrogen. This is a potential of at least tens and hundreds of gigawatts of 'green' electrical capacities and millions of tons of 'green' hydrogen. There must already be infrastructure for transporting electricity and hydrogen in the EU. And all this is there," the President said, adding that "we have always kept our word in providing Europe with energy resources."
