Verkhovna Rada adopted law “On Media”, essential for joining EU

In the first reading, Verkhovna Rada supported the new law "On Media" No. 2693-d

As noted in the media outlet, the draft law was supported by 233 deputies.

The following deputies voted for the document:

• 179 deputies from "Servant of the People,"
• 6 – from "Fatherland,"
• 12 – "Platform for life and future,"
• 7 – Party "For the Future,"
• 12 – "Trust,"
• 12 – "Recovery",
• 5 non-factional.

"European Solidarity" and "Holos" did not vote for the document.

It is worth noting that on August 29, 34 people's deputies from five factions and non-factions appealed to the Speaker of the Rada with a call to withdraw the draft law "On Media" from the upcoming plenary session.

In particular, the People's Deputy of "European Solidarity" Volodymyr Vyatrovych noted that the humanitarian committee should once again consider the draft law and "remove all dangers of demining the cultural border with russia."

Vyatrovych noted, "someone really wants to pass the law in the first reading right now and necessarily with anti-Ukrainian norms."

It should be noted that the approval of the law "On Media" is one of the criteria necessary for starting negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.

In an interview with EP, the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olha Stefanishyna, expressed confidence that this law would be adopted.

According to her, "even those deputies who are not ready to vote right now do not doubt that the adoption of the law is necessary."
