The "Train to Victory" project consists of 7 train cars painted by Ukrainian artists. Each car is dedicated to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and the feats of Ukrainians resisting russian troops. The stories about them can be read by scanning the QR codes printed on the train cars that lead to the project website. "Train to Victory" left from Kyiv for its first trip on August 23 and arrive in Uzhhorod on Independence Day.
"Train to Victory" is a joint initiative of Ukrainian Railways, communication agency Gres Todorchuk and contemporary Ukrainian artists under the curatorship of Katia Taylor. In his illustrations, Andrii Prysiazhniuk captured the courage of Bohdan Ziza, who poured blue and yellow paint over the city administration in Yevpatoria; Serhiy Turkinevych painted residents of Energodar, who unarmed stood up against tanks; Dmytro Kasyanyuk portrayed the steel defenders of Mariupol and brave railway workers who evacuated people from Kharkiv Oblast; Roman Synenko showed the story of doctors from Luhansk region who saved lives by staying in trenches and basements; Alina Konyk depicted farmers of Mykolaiv Oblast, who harvested crops on mined and burning fields, and Maksym Kilderov illustrated the story of resistance movement of Kherson region.
"Train to Victory" is our way to thank all the brave Ukrainians who resist the occupiers. — says Oleksandr Kamyshin, chairman of the Ukrainian Railways board. — The goal of the project is to show that Ukraine remembers those who are under temporary occupation, that we have not forgotten Kherson region, Donetsk region or Crimea. From August 23, the train will run on Kyiv-Uzhhorod and from September 3 – Zaporizhzhia-Lviv routes, connecting the entire country from west to east. And we are sure that one day it will arrive at the stations of those cities that are currently under temporary occupation."
On the website train.foreverukraine.org.ua you can learn about the brave deeds of Ukrainians who are temporarily living under occupation, but continue their fight. You can also go to the site using the QR code printed on each of the seven "Train to Victory" cars.
"We must use all possible tools to keep in the world's focus those who defend our independence in the temporarily occupied territories and on the front lines, and those who need our help in captivity. — says Daria Lubimova, COO of the Gres Todorchuk agency. "Train to Victory" is a project with an important message that Ukraine knows its heroes by face, is proud of them and thanks them for their daily exploits."
"When you live under occupation and hear that people all over the country join flash mobs in your support, draw attention to the crimes committed by the occupiers and talk about you, it gives you the strength to fight on. — says Maksym Shcherbyna, a former employee of the Zaporizhzhya NPP and a member of the Energodar resistance movement. — I dream that "Train to Victory" will be able to see all the heroes from all the regions to which it is dedicated."
