Ukraine’s presidential office announces terms of delivery of air defense systems

Ukraine will receive Western anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense systems in the fall of 2022

Deputy Head of the President's Office for Foreign Policy and Strategic Partnership Andrii Sybiha said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

As he noted, the President's Office is quite optimistic about this.

"We need to close the sky; this is also what the president frankly demonstrates to his partners in all conversations, so we expect an anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense system," he said.

As the official emphasized, the Office of the President is quite optimistic, seeing clear prospects and time frames for deliveries of these badly needed systems.

"Achievable. It will be in the fall," Sybiha said when asked about the terms.

We will remind you that in August 2022, more than 90% of respondents believe in the victory of Ukraine in the war with russia.

Most respondents (55%) say that the expulsion of russian troops from the entire territory of Ukraine and the restoration of borders as of January 2014 can be considered a victory.

Another 20.5% are even more radical: for them, victory in the war will be the destruction of the russian army and the promotion of an uprising/disintegration within russia.

In late June, President Zelensky appealed to the West about Ukraine's air defense needs in his address, saying that Ukraine talks about this with partners daily.

"russian weapons can be stopped only by more powerful weapons," he said.

In early July, the Pentagon announced $820 million in new Ukraine military aid that includes advanced mid- to long-range air defense systems and counter-artillery radars to respond to russia's heavy use of long-range strikes in the war.

The announcement for the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, or NASAMS, marks the start of a contracting process for $770 million worth of equipment, including four more counter-artillery radars and up to 150,000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition, through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
