President Zelensky attends ceremony of raising National Flag of Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has congratulated the Ukrainian people on Ukraine's National Flag Day and assured them that the Flag of Ukraine will return to each city and village, which are now temporarily occupied by Russia.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a solemn ceremony of raising the National Flag of Ukraine in the city of Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The blue and yellow flag of Ukraine will fly again, where its home is. Where it should fly by right – in all the temporarily occupied settlements of Ukraine, those that are occupied temporarily. It will fly forever in Melitopol at Victory Square, where those who will lose this war cannot be. The blue and yellow flag will be there. In Kherson at Freedom Square – there cannot be a flag of those who do not know what freedom is. The blue and yellow flag will be there. It will fly on Azovskyi Avenue in Berdiansk and on Zelena Alley in Skadovsk, over the nuclear power plant in Enerhodar and over Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, on the Adziogol Lighthouse and Savur-Mohyla, on the banks of the Siverskyi Donets and the Kalmius, near Oleshky Sands. There cannot be a flag of those who have heard these Ukrainian names for the first time," the President of Ukraine told.

According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian flag will also fly in Crimean cities.

"No matter how someone attempts to twist history, these colors are historically associated with Crimea," Zelensky stressed.

In addition, the President of Ukraine believes the Ukrainian flag will definitely fly in Donetsk Region and Luhansk Region.

"On the eve of Independence Day, we pay tribute to one of our main symbols, one of our greatest sacred things – the National Flag of Ukraine. A combination of two colors that we incredibly love, cherish and will never change for any other. We will never recognize foreign colors on our land and in our sky. We are always ready to defend our blue and yellow flag," Zelensky stressed.

The President of Ukraine mentioned that the Flag of Ukraine has a long history and has gone through many events and places. In particular, the Flag of Ukraine was on the armored vehicles of the Ukrainian military liberating the settlements of Ukraine from Russian invaders in 2014 and 2022.

The ceremony of raising the National Flag of Ukraine was attended by the representatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, government officials and servicemen. The participants held a moment of silence for those who had been killed in action, defending the flag and statehood of Ukraine.
