Energoatom: russians preparing large-scale provocation at Zaporizhzhia NPP

The russian invaders announced to the management of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant a demand to limit the admission of personnel to the plant today, August 19, 2022. Only operative personnel who ensure the power units' operation are allowed on-site.

There is information that the russian occupying forces are planning to stop working power units shortly and disconnect them from the communication lines supplying power to the Ukrainian power system. Currently, the russian military is looking for fuel suppliers for diesel generators, which must be turned on after the shutdown of power units and in the absence of an external power supply for nuclear fuel cooling systems.

It is also noted that a large propaganda film crew arrived at Enerhodar last night. Its members, together with representatives of russia's FSB, held a joint meeting on the territory of the Alisa Group. And already at 00:15 on August 19, the russian occupiers fired in the direction of the station's training center (STC).

It was recorded that these attacks were carried out from the bus station and the discharge channel. The first case was 1.5 seconds and the impact, and the second was the impact heard three seconds later.

"It is clear that the occupiers are doing this to create a 'nice' picture in the propaganda media, to blame the Armed Forces of Ukraine for these shellings. Once again, we call on the international community to take all necessary measures as soon as possible to de-occupy the Zaporizhia NPP because the nuclear and radiation safety of all humanity is at stake!"  the Energoatom noted.

At the beginning of a full-scale war, russia seized the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. On March 4, it captured the Zaporizhzhia atomic power plant, creating risks of a radiation disaster.

On July 15, the Ukrainian "Energoatom" energy company reported that the russians are installing missile complexes on the territory of the ZNPP, from which they are shelling the Nikopol district.

On August 5, the Zaporizhzhia NPP began to be shelled. Ukraine accuses russian troops of shooting the nuclear power plant, and russia blames Ukrainian defenders.

The UN called for an end to hostilities near the ZNNP, and the world community called on russia to leave the territory of the nuclear power plant.

On August 18, russia's defense ministry announced that on August 19, during the visit of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to Ukraine, a "large-scale provocation" could occur at the ZNPP.

The russian forces also announced a possible shutdown of the Zaporizhzhia NPP if the shelling continues.
