Ukraine wins seventh gold medal at European championship
The European water sports championship is underway in Rome. The seventh "gold" was brought to Ukraine today by Maryna and Vladyslava Aleksiieva in artistic swimming.
Ukrainian women won the technical program in the duet competition with 92.8538 points, Ukrinform reports.
Niche sportswomen were almost 0.9 points ahead of their nearest rivals from Austria.
For the Alekiieva sisters, it is already the fourth "gold" at the championship and the second among duets.
Previously, Maryna and Vladyslava became European champions in the duet free program and also won the highest awards as part of the Ukrainian team in the technical program and combination.
The European Championship in the capital of Italy will end on August 21.
Earlier, it was reported that the Ukrainian national team won the first gold medal in the 2022 European Multisport Championship in Munich (Germany). Svitlana Bohuslavska and Yaroslav Koiuda won the prize for Ukraine in the PR2 class among mixed doubles in para-rowing.
In August, Ukraine's women's national team won the 2022 Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India. The tournament was held for the first time in four years: at the previous Olympiad in 2018, Ukrainian women took second place, losing only to the Chinese team. The Ukrainian team was represented by Maria and Anna Muzychuk, Anna Ushenina, Natalia Buksa, and Yulia Osmak.
In July, Ukraine received the first medal in athletics at the World Championship. Ukrainian athlete Andrii Protsenko who survived the russian occupation in the Kherson region, won bronze. The 34-year-old athlete has been one of the world leaders in high jumps for the last decade.
On July 16–17, the European Aikido Championship was held in Great Britain. Ukrainian athletes from the Luhansk region, Oleksandr Sosiura, and Kyrylo Shekhovtsov, won first place in the "kata" section.
Ukrainians Anhelina Khmil and Tetiana Lazarenko won the gold medals in the U-20 European Youth Beach Volleyball Championship. The tournament was held in Izmir, Turkey. Khmil and Lazarenko defeated Lithuania, Norway, and Hungary in the group. In the playoffs, with a score of 2:0, the Ukrainian volleyball players defeated the Swiss, Spanish and Estonian women.
