It should be noted that the Riga Duma adopted the decision to change the name of Antonijas Street in the section between Kalpaka Boulevard and Roerich Street on March 10.
As reported, within two months, new signposts must be placed on the site, and within one month, the Riga Duma must change the addresses of the objects.
The government timely produced signs with the names of the streets and handed them over to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs consular department to ask the russian Embassy to install them.
Three months after the decision to rename the street, the embassy still did not comply with the request.
As the Delfi portal emphasizes, the Riga government has informed the ministry. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that they communicate with diplomatic missions within the limits of their competence.
They officially informed the russian embassy and sent new signs with the street's name.
The russian Embassy in Latvia has been informed about the change of the street's name and the embassy's official address. The embassy was also instructed to change the address plates.
"At the same time, the russian embassy, like other diplomatic missions, is covered by diplomatic immunity provided for by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.
The issue is resolved in compliance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains.
Even though the address plates have not changed, the Delfi portal knows that the embassy is already receiving postal parcels at the new address. This is Ukrainas neatkarības, 2.
We would like to remind you that the decision to rename the section of Antonijas Street, where the russian Embassy in Latvia is located, was made to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the struggle of the Ukrainian people for independence.
They did the same in Vilnius. There, the street on which the russian Embassy is located was renamed after the Heroes of Ukraine.
