Spain launched pilot project to transport grain from Ukraine by train
Spain has launched a pilot project to transport grain by train from Ukraine as an alternative or supplement to sea transport.
Ministry of Transport of Spain stated it, EP reports.
Railway operator Renfe Mercancías sent 25 units of 40-foot containers to the border between Poland and Ukraine to transport 600 tons of Ukrainian corn to Spain.
This is a pilot test through which the Ministry seeks to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of rail transportation of grain through a rail line crossing Europe from Łódź to Barcelona.
The train goes Madrid – Ludwigshafen – Duisburg – Łódź – Chelm, while the return is Chelm – Łódź – Duisburg – Barcelona.
Transport logistics are planned to be carried out between Ukraine and Spain with the transportation of goods to Chelm (Poland), 25 km from the border with Ukraine.
