Zelensky said that he wants to talk "directly" with the leader of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping so that China can help use its influence on russia

He said this in an interview with the South China Morning Post.

According to the president, China could influence russia to stop its war against Ukraine.

"I would like to talk directly. I had one conversation with Xi Jinping that was a year ago," he said.

"Since the beginning of the large-scale aggression on February 24, we have asked officially for a conversation, but we (haven't had) any conversation with China even though I believe that would be helpful," the Head of State said.

Zelensky added that China is a "very powerful state," so it can influence russia politically and economically.

The President of Ukraine also expressed hope that China and other countries will unite to support the reconstruction of Ukraine.

He also touched on the speculation that moscow, currently facing tough Western sanctions, is supplying semiconductors from Asian countries for weapons production.

The head of state said that the Ukrainian special services "work as well as the Chinese ones," so Kyiv knows which countries moscow has turned to for help in this matter.

Still, the president said he would not point the finger at those governments but instead focus on their unification against russia.

It should be recalled that Zelensky previously stated that Ukraine is satisfied with China's status quo in the russian-Ukrainian war — such a policy is better than assisting russia.

"China has chosen a policy of being on the sidelines. I believe that this policy suits Ukraine.

It's better than helping the russian federation, anyway. We would like to believe that China will not pursue a different policy behind its back. So we are satisfied with this status quo," the Ukrainian president emphasized.
