Ukraine expects to harvest up to 20 mln tonnes of wheat

This year Ukraine's wheat harvest is expected to reach 18-20 million tonnes, which is fivefold higher than the domestic consumer demand.

The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

"The wheat harvest is expected to reach 18-20 million tonnes, which is fivefold higher than the demand. Our domestic consumer demand is up to 4 million tonnes per annum. In addition, we still have high-quality wheat in stocks, harvested last year," the report states.

According to the ministry, the yield of wheat, buckwheat, corn, barley, oats, rye and other crops will fully meet Ukraine's domestic needs.

In terms of most crops, Ukraine will have an export offer, as the harvest will be much higher than the domestic demand.

According to Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food First Deputy Minister Taras Vysotskyi, this year Ukrainian farmers have sown much higher buckwheat volumes than in previous years. Hence, Ukraine will be able to fully meet the domestic demand, and the price will get balanced. The same relates to rye, oats and other crops.
